Our friends and neighbors in Richmond, CA only have good things to say about the Rosie the Riveter Historical Park, and once you’ve had the chance to tour it for yourself, you’ll have no trouble seeing why! Often, though not without reason, the stories we tell ourselves about World War II are centered on the battlefield. Nevertheless, the achievements of U.S. soldiers would not have been possible without the sacrifices made by those back home! Rosie the Riveter Historical Park puts a spotlight on the Home Front, showing visitors how civilians of all stripes made victory a possibility.
Attractions and Activities
At Rosie the Riveter Historical Park, you and your family will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the American Homefront. The stories you’ll encounter here often highlight the efforts of women workers and people of color, who had to struggle for equal rights as wartime industries boomed.
- Films and hands-on exhibitions play regularly at the Visitor Center, located at 1414 Harbour Way South, Suite 3000, in Richmond, California. Admission to all films is free for guests of the park.
- On Rosie Fridays, visitors will be able to spend time with Home Front workers who came of age during World War II. Those who call ahead will also be able to enjoy special programming with celebrated park ranger and Home Front veteran Betty Reid Soskin—any day of the week.
- In-Depth Ranger and Docent programs are ongoing throughout the year! Check out the calendar of upcoming events to learn more.
- Richmond, CA was home to a wide variety of war industries, and many original structures remain intact! Richmond was one of the largest shipbuilding centers during World War II, and the original SS Red Oak Victory Ship can be boarded and explored.
